New Bedford – Laura “Laury” Camacho, of East Wareham, age 61, passed away on Monday July 8, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Edwin “Charlie” Camacho. She was born in New Bedford, a daughter of Mildred “Millie” (Andrade) and Bonaventura Barboza. She spent some time in Seattle, WA where she worked as a journalist writing her own column in a local magazine. She was also a strong advocate for assisting recovering addicts and alcoholics. She was a spiritual woman who enjoyed art, painting portraits and reading the bible.
Her surviving family includes her 2 daughters: Tracey Barboza and Christina Lopez Camacho, both of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren: Kendra Beltran, Kayla Barboza and Hector Ruiz Barboza, Jr., all of New Bedford; 2 siblings: Marilyn “Bonnie” Ortiz and Bonventura “Buster” Barboza, both of New Bedford; as well as 2 great grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
