New Bedford – Raymond L. Giasson, age 95, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 at The Oaks after a brief period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Kimball) Giasson. Raymond was born in New Bedford, a son of Rose A. (Rouillier) and Louis Z. Giasson. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and was a retired Firefighter for the New Bedford Fire Department for over 25 years. Mr. Giasson proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy earning the rank of Seaman, 1st Class. After retiring from the Fire Department, he worked part time in the service department at Sears. He enjoyed model shipbuilding and, during his firefighting years, rebuilding toys at Station 4 for children.
His survivors include his 2 sons: J. Tom Giasson and his wife Tracey of New Bedford and Michael C. Giasson and his wife Cathy of Acushnet; 8 grandchildren: Paige, Reed, Kara, Timothy, Rebecca, Patricia, Danielle and William, as well as 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his 3 siblings: Jeannette T. Tremblay, Paul Giasson and Roland Giasson.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff at The Oaks for their dedicated service.
Mr. Giasson’s visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Cremation will follow and a private burial of his cremains will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to The Oaks 4525 Acushnet Ave. New Bedford, MA 02745, in care of the resident activity fund.
