Natalia A. Sousa

New Bedford – Natalia A. Sousa, age 86, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao R. Sousa. She was born in Pico, Açores, a daughter of Maria Augusta (Lopes) and Manuel Furtado daSilva. She moved to this country in 1961 and worked as a stitcher at M&S Sportswear until her retirement.
Her family include her 3 loving children: Maria Felicidade Melo and her husband Jaime, Ilidio Sousa and his wife Mary Ann and Natalia Freitas and her husband Walter, all of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren: Tammy Richardson of New Bedford, James Melo and his wife Jeanna of New Bedford, Susan Duarte and her husband Paul of Dartmouth, Julie Martins and her husband Nelson of New Bedford, Jeffrey Allen Sousa of Acushnet, Brian Dean Sousa of Virginia, Dr. Andrew Mark Sousa and his wife Megan of Kansas, Christine Sousa of New Bedford, Kellie Freitas of New Bedford, Walter Freitas and his wife Beth of Dartmouth, and the late Michael Freitas; her sister Leonilda Silva of Faial, Açores as well as 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sousa’s funeral will be Tuesday, July 2 at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, beginning at 8:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 6 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
