Michael A. "Mackey" Soares

New Bedford-Michael A.”Mackey” Soares died at St. Luke’s Hospital on Saturday August 14, 2004 surrounded by his loving family. He was the widow of Merriam “Mim”(Dominga) Soares. He was the father of Elizabeth “Betty” Goodine, Irene Bulgar, both of New Bedford, Joseph “Rookie” Pina of Fairhaven, Stephanie Soares of Alpharetta, GA., Dennis Soares of Brooklyn, NY,. Marlene Sterling of Melbourne, FL., and Barry Pina of New York, NY,. He was the father of the late Joyce Goodine, Michael A. Soares Jr., and Robert Soares. He was the brother of the late Joseph “Cokey” Soares, Edwin “Din” Soares, Dominga “Denny” Soares-Gomes, Pauline Soares-Neto, Annie Soares, Frankie Soares, and Elizabeth Soares. He was survived by 18 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Soares was the son of the late Antone and Mary (Dominga) Soares. He was born in Wareham he lived in New Bedford, then lived in Brooklyn, NY., then moved back to New Bedford in 1972. He was a Police Dispatcher at U Mass Dartmouth before his retirement. He was a member of the Merchant Mariners Club, the former United Social Club, the A.P.A. Pool League. He was an avid pool player. He coached several softball teams.

The Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday August 18th, 2004 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 am. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, MA.
