New Bedford - James Lee Crandal, age 60, died on Wednesday May 22, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. James was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon, the son of the late June B. (Purdy) and the late Floyd Wesley Crandal. He worked as a commercial fisherman both in Alaska and in this area for many years on various vessels. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a medic. He also did some work in the medical field. Mr. Crandal could build anything with his hands and also enjoyed nature, fishing and cooking. People were attracted to his outgoing and loving personality and he was known to put others in front of himself.
Mr. Crandal is survived by his son Joshua Crandal and his wife Kelley of New Jersey, his sister Lana Abrams who always remembers him doing things first and brother in-law Craig of Seattle, his brother Kevin Abrams of Seattle, his longtime loving companion, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Bowers, who was always at his side, and his beautiful Scarlett Macaw “Mary”. He was also survived by 2 loving grandchildren, one on the way; 1 step-grandchild, and a niece and nephew.
Jim is sadly missed and will be in our hearts forever until we meet again.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be a memorial at a later date. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
