Joseph Vera, Jr.

New Bedford - Joseph Vera Jr., age 95, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford. He was the loving husband of Katherine Vera with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Mr. Vera was born in New Bedford, the son of Mary (Morris) and Joseph Vera. Joe spent all of his life in this area, excluding his time in the military, and worked in Maintenance for First National Bank. Mr. Vera proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and held the rank of Steward.
His survivors include his wife, Katherine; 3 children: Virginia Vera of Fall River, Marylyn Vera of Ocala, Fl and Donald Vera of New Bedford; as well as 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vera is predeceased by his siblings: Milton Vera, Stephen Vera, Laura Morin, Elsie Homen, Alice Homen and Stella Lombardi.
A Funeral Mass with his cremains present will take place on Saturday, May 25 at 10:00 A.M. at St. George Parish, 12 Highland Ave. in Westport, Ma. Visiting hours are omitted and everyone is asked to meet at the church. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
