New Bedford – Antone DeMello, 74 of New Bedford passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Eduarda (DeDeus) DeMello. Born in New Bedford he was a son of the late Rose (Ponte) and the late Manuel DeMello. Antone worked as a fisherman and a Natural Resource Officer in Dartmouth. He also had a lifelong passion for the caring of animals. He also worked at Frionor for many years. Mr. DeMello was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in South Dartmouth.
His survivors along with his wife include his 5 children; Kevin DeMello of New Bedford, Antone DeMello Jr. of Acushnet, Paula Avellar of New Bedford, Christine Cossette of Franklin, Lewis DeMello of Wareham, 17 grandchildren that he loved as his own, 7 great grandchildren whom he adored, several siblings as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. DeMello’s funeral will be Tuesday, May 14 at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in South Dartmouth at 10 A.M. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 5-8 P.M. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.
