New Bedford - Belta M. DeCastro, age 62 years, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Peter DeCastro of New Bedford who together shared 12 years of marriage. Belta was born in Biscoitos, Terceira, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Maria (Martins) and the late Jose Meneses. Prior to back surgery several years ago, Mrs. DeCastro was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant, also worked as a traveling CNA and as a machine set-up operator at Aerovox. She enjoyed vacationing in Bonita Springs Florida and taking cruises with her husband. Belta had a passion for cooking her favorite dish “al cartra”. She also enjoyed family outings and loved her two Siamese cats: Lolita and Ninha. She extended her love for felines by feeding the neighborhood cats daily.
Her survivors include her husband Peter; her 4 children: Paula Marcelino of Hudson, NY, Paul Marcelino and Carla Marcelino both of Fall River and John Santos of New Bedford; 3 siblings: Nelson Meneses of New Jersey, Maria Nogueira of New Bedford and Maria C. Felix of Portugal; and 4 grandchildren: Shawn Cowles, Alexandra Gomez, Angelica Gomez and Brianna Marcelino; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours with her cremains present will take place in the funeral home on Friday, May 10th from 5 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. At the convenience of the family, a private Funeral Mass will be held for Belta on Saturday. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Humane Society South Coast 31 Ventura Drive Dartmouth, MA 02747.
