Manuel C. Mendonca

New Bedford- Manuel C. Mendonca, aged 88, died, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Tillie (Dutra) Mendonca and son of the late Palmira (Caiado) and Manuel C. Mendonca. Manuel was born in New Bedford and lived all his life in the area. Mr. Mendonca was a District Fire Chief for the New Bedford Fire Department who served his community from 1947 to 1987; he was also a proud member of the U.S. Army who served during WWII and was a licensed electrician.
Manuel is survived by his daughter Sharon A. Mendonca of New Bedford, granddaughters; Kaitlin Mendonca of Boston and Molly Bettencourt of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter in-law Bette Mendonca of New Bedford as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late Steve A. Mendonca and brother of the late Amadeio Mendonca.
Mr. Mendonca’s funeral will be at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Saturday, April 20th, at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, at 9:45 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
