Manuel Lima Couto, aged 50, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 11, 2013 at home in New Bedford. He was son of Maria (Lima) and the late Manuel Bento Couto. Manuel was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and moved to this area in January of 1976. After moving to the states, Mr. Couto fulfilled his dream and his love for the ocean by becoming a Fisherman for various commercial fishing vessels in New Bedford. He was a very athletic man who enjoyed martial arts and soccer. Manuel was also very fond of his Harley Davidson Custom Chopper. All of his family adored him and will miss him deeply. He loved his siblings very much and each one meant the world to him. He would introduce his sister, Maria, as his twin; Filomena was referred to as his “angel” after the comfort she gave him following a motorcycle accident; Angie was the family grocery shopper, and Connie and Antonio, his baby brother, were the perfect siblings to Manuel.
Survivors include his mother Maria; his sons: Derek and Jordan Couto both of New Bedford; siblings: Connie Lima and her husband Carlos of New Bedford, Filomena Linhares and her husband Manuel F. of Dartmouth, Angie Correia and her husband Mario, Maria Couto-Furtado, Antonio Couto husband of Nicole all of New Bedford, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, aunts and uncles. He was also survived by the love of his life, Susana Couto.
He was predeceased by his brother Paul Couto.
Mr. Couto’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday, April 16th, at 9:30 A.M. with A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
