New Bedford – Dana Burgo, aged 45, died unexpectedly of heart failure on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Dana was a son of Charles Knuckles and Yvonne Burgo and the loving father of Derek Gomes and Dana Burgo Jr. both of New Bedford. Mr. Burgo is also survived by his brothers; Dale Burgo and his wife Lorena, Kenneth Burgo, Steven Burgo and his wife Shelley Mendes, all of New Bedford; Kevin Burgo of Dartmouth; two god-children: Cherele and Djay Burgo; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Mr. Burgo was the brother of the late Gordon “Skip" Burgo and Charlie “Boo" Costa.
Dana was born in New Bedford and had lived in this area all his life. He formerly worked as a Brick Layer. Mr. Burgo graduated from New Bedford High School where he was an avid athlete. Mr. Burgo was honored as a member of the New Bedford High School Hall of Fame; an honor that made Dana very proud. After high school, Dana attended the University of New Haven.
Mr. Burgo’s funeral will be Friday, April 5th at 8 A.M. at PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5-8 P.M. in the funeral home on Thursday, April 4th. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements placed in the care of PERRY FUNERAL HOME.
