Jose F. Carreiro

Dartmouth- Jose F. Carreiro, age 92, died Saturday, March 2nd at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the husband of the late Julieta (Moniz) Carreiro. Mr. Carreiro was the loving father of Agostinho Carreiro of New Bedford, Jose Carreiro of Dartmouth, Isabel Pimentel of New Bedford and Julieta Pickering of Dartmouth. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Edna Oliveira, Michael Carreiro, Derek DeMelo, Michele Carreiro, Jordan DeMelo, Bethany Pimentel and T.J. Pickering; as well as several nieces and nephews. Jose is predeceased by several siblings.
He was born in São Miguel, Açores, son of the late Agostinho and Filomena (DeJesus) Carreiro. He moved to this country in 1968 and worked at Gaspar Sausage Company until his retirement. Jose was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church. Jose enjoyed pruning grapevines for all his friends and family, as well as making his own wine. Many will remember Mr. Carreiro for his daily walks around his neighborhood.
Mr. Carreiro’s funeral will be Wednesday, March 6th at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Padanaram at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 5 from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
