Jose Correia Domingos

NEW BEDFORD – Jose Correia Domingos, aged 97 years, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 21st at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Salga, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, son of Maria Helena (Pereira) and Francisco Correia Domingos. Jose was the husband of the late Maria (Melo) Domingos. He resided in New Bedford since 1950 and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church in New Bedford.

Mr. Domingos was employed by Reynolds Bottled Gas which later became Petrolane, Inc. After his retirement, he returned to his first love which was working with grape vines and teaching the art of pruning to the younger generation.

His family includes his children: Joseph F. Domingos and his wife Donna of Falmouth, Ma.;Esperanca Whitney and her husband Curtis of Lacey, Wa; Helen M. Duarte and her husband Luis of New Bedford; and his sister Maria Bulhoes of New Bedford. His grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Vicente, Seth Whitney, Adam Levandowski, and Justin and Jeffrey Domingos. He had four great grandchildren: Mercedes, Logan and Hope Levandowski and George Miles Whitney. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Elsa Vicente, the grandfather of the late Mark Vicente and the brother of the late Saul Correia, Jorge Pereira and Teodoro Correia.

Mr. Domingos funeral will be Thursday, February 28th at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St at 9:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and Friends are invited.
