New Bedford – Miguel F. Centeio, age 93 years, died Thursday, January 24 at home with his family at his side. Son of the late Augusto and Margarida F. Centeio, Mr. Centeio was born in Fogo, Cape Verde and moved to Brava, Cape Verde at age of 10 before settling to New Bedford in 1966. Survivors include Maria Centeio; 8 children: Margurite DaSylva, Irma Carlisle and Flora Centeio all of New Bedford, Margarida Masden of Atlanta Georgia, Dolores Bessant of Virginia Beach, David Monteiro of Praia Cape Verde, Jack Centeio and Daniel Centeio, both of New Bedford. He was the father of the late Jose Centeio and the late George Centeio. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Jack DeSousa of N. Dartmouth; a sister-in-law Maria Centeio of Roxbury Ma; a daughter-in-law Darlene Centeio of New Bedford; and 2 son-in-laws Lee Carlisle of New Bedford and Thomas Bessant of Virginia, as well as 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joao Centeio.
He worked as a Machine Operator for Morse Twist Drill.
Mr. Centeio’s funeral will be Tuesday, January 29th at 8 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday, January 28 from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
