Humberto J. DaCosta, age 96 years, died peacefully on January 13th at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Agnes M. (Moniz) DaCosta of New Bedford. Mr. DaCosta was the loving father of 3 children: Joyce A. DaSilva, wife of Donald, of North Dartmouth, James H. DaCosta, husband of Linda, of Stoughton, Ma and Joanne Barber, wife of Frederic, of Beverly, Mass. Humberto was the brother of Julianna Swan, Albert DaCosta and Antonio DaCosta. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mr. DaCosta was predeceased by 3 siblings, 2 grandchildren and one son-in-law, John Mello.
Herb, as he was known by many, was born in Fall River, son of Margaret (Silva) and Manuel DaCosta. Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co. Herb was a loyal member of the Goodyear Seniors.
Mr. DaCosta’s funeral will be Wednesday, January 16th at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St in New Bedford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be the morning of his service at the funeral home beginning at 9 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
