New Bedford – Maria Luiza Mota, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Virginio Mota and the late Jacinto Pinho, daughter of the late Aldina (Chaves) and Jose Alcaidinho. Mrs. Mota’s family includes her children Fatima P. Buzniak and her husband Andrew of Florida, Beatriz M. Gravelle and her husband Gary of Arizona, Mariano M. Pinho of New Bedford, and the late Joao J. Pinho who recently passed. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Tracie Rothwell, Amanda Pinho, Melissa Pinho, Chelsea Skipwith, Dillon Pinho and Jason Galli, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose Alcaidinho and Ermelinda Peneira.
Mrs. Mota was born in Sao Miguel, Azores and moved to New Bedford in 1960. She was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, a member of the Dartmouth Council on Aging; she loved to play Bingo and Knitting.
Maria’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Saturday at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial at St John Cemetery to follow. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
