Fernando A. Gaspar passed away June 18, 2004 @ his home in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Leotine R. (Nicolau), who passed away May 21, 1967. He was the beloved father of Robert Gaspar, husband of Cynthia, of Mattapoisett, Barbara (Lynch), wife of James of Mattapoisett, Linda (Charbonneau) wife of Wayne, of New Bedford, and Cynthia (Connor), wife of Timothy, of New Bedford. He was the loved grandfather of Mark, Scott, Leigh, Kerry, Jenna, Todd, Jillian and Brianne. He was the brother of Tobias A. Gaspar (New Bedford), Isabel (Marshall) of Middleboro, the late Charles Gaspar and the late Joseph Gaspar. Mr Gaspar also had several nieces and nephews that loved him very much.

Mr. Gaspar was born in Providence, RI, son of the late Manuel A. Gaspar and the late Justina (Silva). Mr Gaspar lived most of his life in this area. He was the owner and president of Gaspar’s Sausage Co. Inc. He served in the United States Army during WWII and held the rank of Sargeant. Sgt. Gaspar fought w/ Co.B 357 Infantry Regiment in Normandy, Northern France Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during WWII. For his services during the war, Sgt. Gaspar received 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon w/ 5 Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Gaspar was a member of The Former Red Wing Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also an avid sports fan.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2004 @ Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church @ 10:30am. Family and friends are invited. Burial will follow @ St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be PRIVATE for the convenience of the family.
