Eliza Centeio

Eliza Centeio age 67, died Friday, November 23 at Bedford Village Nursing Home in New Bedford. She was the loving mother of Jose Fernandes, husband of Gracelina, of New Bedford. She had 4 beloved grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Jaylen, Jayleel, Jada and William Fernandes. Ms. Centeio was survived by her siblings: Maria Santos of New Bedford, Alberto Centeio of New Bedford and Isabel Centeio of the Cape Verde Islands. Eliza had many more siblings that reside in Cape Verde, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ms. Centeio was born in the Cape Verde Islands, daughter of Adelaide (Centeio) Barros and the late Joao Barros. She moved to the area in 1984 and worked as a Laborer at Met Fisheries until her illness. She was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church as well as a loyal member of the Bisca Club in New Bedford. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ms. Centeio’s funeral will be Tuesday, November 27 beginning at the funeral home at 8 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will ensue at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours for Ms. Centeio will be held Monday from 5 – 8 P.M at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, Ma. Relatives and friends are invited.
