Manuel P. Pacheco, 83, of Acushnet, passed away at his home on June 11, 2004. He was the husband of Julia (Raposa). He was the beloved father of the late Leonard M. Pacheco. He was the loved grandfather of Timothy Pacheco, husband of Kelly, of Rochester. He was the loved great-grandfather of Amanda, Nicholas, and Ashley Pacheco. He was the brother of John Pacheco (California), Florence Kral (California) and the half-brother of Joseph Freitas (California). He was the father-in-law of Diane Pacheco of Dartmouth. Mr. Pacheco also had several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pacheco was born in New Bedford, son of the late Jose Pacheco and Maria (Francis). He worked in the school department as a bus driver and a custodian. Mr. Pacheco also served in the United States Army during World War II and held the rank of Private 1st class. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars during his time in the military. Mr. Pacheco was an Ex-POW(prisoner-of-war) in Stalag 5 B. He was a survivor of The Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Disabled American Vets and the American Legion.

In accordance to his wishes he will be cremated. For the convenience of Mr. Pacheco’s family a private memorial service and burial of ashes at Massachusetts National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
