New Bedford – Joseph G. “JJ”Jacintho, age 83, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at home. He was the beloved husband of Anna May (Rose) Jacintho. Mr. Jacintho was the loving father of 5 children; Joseph A. Jacintho of New Bedford, Donald J. Jacintho, husband of Stephanie of Dallas TX, Frank R. Jacintho of New Bedford, Elaine M. Jackson of New Bedford and Richard R. Jacintho, husband of Lolita, of Oxen Hill, MD. He is also survived by his special cousin Jenny Pimental of New Bedford, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his longtime caregiver Maria Vicente
Mr. Jacintho was predeceased by several siblings.
Mr. Jacintho was a son of the late Francisco M. Jacintho and Mary (Gamboa) Jacintho. He was born in New Bedford and has lived in this area all his life. Joseph held the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Maintenance worker for the City of New Bedford Housing Authority for many years. Mr. Jacintho was a member of the Cape Verdean War Veterans as well as a member of the Laborers International Union.
Mr. Jacintho’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
