Joao Dealmeida

New Bedford – Joao DeAlmeida, age 87, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Ilda Sousa (Bispo) DeAlmeida. Mr. DeAlmeida was the loving father of 4 sons; Walter M. Almeida husband of Yolanda, Jorge A. Almeida husband of Ida both of New Bedford, John M. Almeida husband of Carol of Dartmouth, Carlos A. Almeida husband of Karen of Westport and loving step-father of Alzira Vicente of New Bedford. Joao is also survived by his sister Fernanda Barroso of Dartmouth, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. DeAlmeida was predeceased by several other siblings.

Mr. DeAlmeida was a son of the late Deolinda and Francisco Jacinto De Almeida. He was born in St. Michael, Açores and has lived in this country since 1964. Joao worked as a laborer for Brittany Dye.

Mr. DeAlmeida’s funeral (date has changed due to storm) will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
