Luis Furtado

New Bedford- Luis Furtado died at the age of 59 from a long term illness on Wednesday, September 26th 2012. He was the beloved husband of Fatima (Mota) Furtado for the past 34 years. Luis was the loving father of Sandra and Melinda Furtado both of New Bedford. He was the brother of Joao Furtado and Isabel Oliveira both of Sao Miguel, Liberio Furtado, Cidalia Morgado, Ana Cordeiro and Santo Cristo Cabral all of Canada; Octavio Furtado of Fall River, Fatima Afonso of New Bedford, Maria Jose Furtado of Rhode Island and the late Jose Antonio Furtado. Luis is also survived by several brother and sister in-laws as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Furtado was a son of the late Maria (Sousa) and the late Jose Furtado. Born in Povoacao Sao Miguel, Portugal he has lived in New Bedford for the past 34 years. Luis worked at Hathaway – Dartmouth Finishing, Quaker Fabrics and also drove school buses for the Amaral Bus Company for many years. Mr Furtado enjoyed Dunkin Donuts Coffee.
Mr. Furtado’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations to the family will be greatly appreciated.
