Elsie J. Sylvia

New Bedford – Elsie J. Sylvia., age 102, passed away at The Oaks Nursing Center on Sunday August 19, 2012. Mrs Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Clarence Sylvia. She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Constance (Chaves) and Antone Joseph. She was a lifetime resident of New Bedford. She worked at the Gosnold Mill as a Floor Worker and later worked at Willow Tree.

Survivors include her Daughter Rita Caron and her husband Carl of New Bedford, her son Kenneth Sylvia of New Bedford, grandchildren Melissa daCosta wife of Derek, Robert Sylvia, Kenneth Sylvia, Michael Sylvia and Dawn Riggin, and 5 great grandchildren, a brother Ed Joseph of Conn, Alfred Joseph of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Stephen Sylvia, sister of the late Deolinda Gonsalves, Mary Netinho, Albert Joseph, Olive Gouveia, Anna Silva, and Tony Joseph.

Mrs Sylvia’s funeral will be Wednesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 4 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Salvation Army Neediest Family Fund.
