DeCosta
New Bedford – William DeCosta Jr., age 74, passed away at home Wednesday, August 15, 2012 after a long battle with lung cancer. Mr. DeCosta was the beloved husband of Muriel (Pothier) DeCosta. He was born in New Bedford, the son of the late William DeCosta and Laura (Correia) DeCosta. He was a lifetime resident of New Bedford and a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church. Mr. DeCosta was a material handler for the Borg-Warner Corp (formerly The New Era Gear) in the Industrial park. Mr. DeCosta was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp.
Survivors include his sons, Michael and his wife Suzanne of Stormville,NY , Stephen of Groton, CT, Scott of Fairhaven, MA, and one daughter Melissa and her husband Chris. He leaves seven lovely grandchildren Sarah, Michael, Nicole, Courtney, Samantha, Nicholas and Rebecca. He was the brother of the late Janice (De Costa) Fore of Bradenton FL and the son in law of the late Roland and Louise (DeBlois) Pothier. The Family would like to thank Dr. John Niedzwicki and the staff at Hawthorne Medical Center and Community Nursing and Hospice Care of Fairhaven for the care they gave William.
Mr. DeCosta’s funeral will be Saturday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church at 9:30 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday evening from 4 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Community Nurse and Hospice care 62 Centre St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
