New Bedford – Maria S. (Coelho) Medeiros , Age 86, passed away at 10:20 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012 in her home following and illness with her family by her side. Maria was the wife of the late Manuel S. Medeiros and mother of 6 children, 5 daughters and 1 son, Lidia Almeida and her husband Fernando of Georgia, Margaret DeMelo and her husband Julio of E.Freetown, Ana DeMedeiros and her husband Manuel of New Bedford, Maria Laliberte and her husband Steven of Florida, Maria Paula Blevins of New Bedford and her late Husband George, Ricardo Medeiros and his wife Heather of New Bedford. Mrs Medeiros is also survived by 17 grandchildren , 17 great grandchildren , 1 sister Laudalina Rebelo of Canada, a very close niece Carmelia daSilva, and several other nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria doCarmo Soares and Manuel Coelho.

Mrs Medeiros was a daughter of the late Maria doSanto Cristo and Joao Coelho, She was born in Ponta Delgada, St Miguel, Azores Portugal and moved to New Bedford in 1966. She worked at Paul Modes Clothing until her retirement. Maria will be remembered as a devoted wife , loving mother and doting grandmother and great grandmother. She was extremely proud of her family and relished every moment spent with them. Maria enjoyed watching her Portuguese soap operas and wouldn’t miss an episode, she was a strong confident woman that was loved and respected by many, Maria will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Medeiros ’ funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M., Burial will be at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening, from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and Friends are invited
