Jose Almeida

New Bedford – Jose Almeida, age 85, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Angelina Almeida of New Bedford. He was the father of Manuel Almeida and Lucy Brum of New Bedford, Joao Almeida of South Dartmouth, Jose Almeida of Acushnet and David Almeida of Texas. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Almeida, Virginio Almeida, Maria dos Anjos Almeida and Sofia Almeida. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.


Mr. Almeida was born in Agua da Pau, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal. He has lived in the New Bedford area for the past 43 years. He was a son of the late Rosalina (Pimentel) and Agostinho Almeida. He worked as a machine operator at the American Flexible Conduit Company in New Bedford. Mr. Almeida was a member and director of the Our Lady of Angels Club in Fairhaven, and the member and founder of Our Lady of Angels Band in New Bedford. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.


Mr. Almeida’s funeral will be Saturday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday from 5 -8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
