New Bedford – Isolina Carmen (Medeiros) Matos, age 64, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose C. Matos of New Bedford. She was the mother of Robert husband of Ana I. Matos of New Bedford and Paul husband of Darbi Lambert-Matos of Rochester. Grandmother of Roy, Amanda and Neva Matos, sister of Grace Medeiros of New Bedford and Silverio Medeiros of St. Michael, Azores, sister-in-law of Artur Matos, Maria Anjos Medeiros and Maria Augustina Lima of New Bedford and Maria Inez Achadinha of Medford, Ma. Mrs. Matos also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Mrs. Matos was born in Agua da Pau, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and has lived in the New Bedford area for the past 43 years. She was a daughter of the late Isidoro and Maria doCarmo (Fereira) Medeiros. Mrs. Matos worked as a seamstress for several local factories. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Mount Carmel Interfaith Committee, the Holy Ghost Society, Holy Name Society, and the Charasmatic Prayer Group, all at Mt. Carmel Church. Isolina enjoyed travelling, taking bus trips with her church, playing cards with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Matos’ funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 5 -8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
