Joseph W. Sylvia

New Bedford - Joseph W. Sylvia, 81, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian R. (Vieira) Sylvia. Joseph was the father of Edward Rebello of Reno,Neva, Ernesto A. Rebello Jr., Diane L. Baptista, Donna M. DeSouza all of New Bedford and Debra J. Fiano of Florida. Mr. Sylvia was the brother of Harold Sylvia of PA, Manuel Sylvia, James Sylvia, Joyce Sylvia all of New Bedford and the late Florence McClein, Ruth Blackburn, Doris Gaspar, Donald Sylvia and William Sylvia. Joseph is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sylvia was a son of the late Olive (Sylvia) and Manuel F. Sylvia. He was born in New Bedford and lived all his life. Joseph served with the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sylvia worked as Sweeper driver for the Waste Water Division of the City of New Bedford.

Interment of Mr. Sylvia’s cremains will be Monday, June 25 1P.M. at the Rural Cemetery Veterans Section beside his widow Lillian.
