New Bedford – Joao P. Carreiro, age 84 years, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Albertina (Tavares) Carreiro. Mr. Carreiro was the beloved father of Maria Filomena Pereira of N. Dartmouth who was the only survivor of triplets which included the late Francicso and Lucia Carreiro, Jose C. and Joao E. Carreiro both of S. Dartmouth and Francisco M. Carreiro of Acushnet. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carreiro was a son of the late Maria de Lurdes (Peixoto) and Joaquin Carreiro. He was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1972. Jose was employed as a floorman at Columbia Electric.

Mr. Carreiro’s funeral will be Friday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
