Manuel Bettencourt

New Bedford – Manuel Bettencourt, age 86 years, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at New Bedford Health Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Aldina (Andrade) Bettencourt. Mr. Bettencourt was the beloved father of Manuel husband of Jo-Ann Bettencourt of Fairhaven and George husband of Rochelle Bettencourt of New Bedford. He was the brother of Arthur Bettencourt of Canada, Elidio Bettencourt of Fayal, Azores, Alfredo Bettencourt of New Bedford and Maria DaSaude of New Bedford. He is also survived by his grandchildren Susan Riley, Sherri, Kevin, Robert and Kyle Bettencourt, Kristen Fiano and the late Kelly Bettencourt, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bettencourt was a son of the late Adelaide (Da Gloria) and Antonio Bettencourt. He was born in Madalena, Pico, Azores, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1960. Manuel was employed as a painter at International Dryer. Mr. Bettencourt was a member of Irmandade Do Espinilo Santo Do Pico.

Mr. Bettencourt’s funeral will be Thursday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Johns Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
