Lourdes C. Tavares

New Bedford – Lourdes C. Tavares, age 101 years, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio M. Tavares. Mrs. Tavares was the beloved mother of Julieta C. Lourdes wife of Hermano M. Pereira of S. Dartmouth, Lucilia C. wife of Antonio Sousa of N. Dartmouth, Antonio husband of Cremilde Tavares of Toronto, Canada and the late Jose M. Tavares. Mrs. Tavares was the sister of Jose Tobias Carreiro of Fall River and the late Joao, Manuel and Everisto Carreiro and Conceicao Cordeiro . She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tavares was a daughter of the late Maria da Luz (Costa) and Joao Carreiro. She was born in Agua de Pau, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1968. Mrs. Tavares was employed as a floor lady at Mickey Madam’s.

Mrs. Tavares’ funeral will be Friday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Johns Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
