New Bedford-John J. O’Malley lll, age 55 years, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012. John was the loving husband of Catherine Mae of New Bedford, He was born in New Bedford to the late John J. O’Malley Jr. and Claudette (Allain) O’Malley and was a lifelong resident. He was a communicant of Holy Name of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

John worked as a Funeral Director at Perry’s Funeral Home his entire career. He prepared loved ones passing to eternal rest for 30 yrs of his life with utmost care and dignity. He was a proud member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick serving as Vice President from 2009 – 2010 and a member of the Board of Directors. He was a dedicated member of the NB ½ marathon committee as a volunteer cook with John Saunders for years. John was instrumental in the the coordination of visiting Dignitaries from their Sister Cities of Derry and Buncrana, Ireland. He participated in many Thanksgiving Turkey drives donating his time and love to serve others. John was an Eagle Scout with Gold Palm from Troop 5 of New Bedford, and served on many committees from scouting as an adult.


Surviving besides his wife Cathy are his Family Members, B.J. Goldberg his brother in law; his siblings, Dr. Donald E. O’Malley, Maureen and her husband, Jean Pierre Trahan , Michael Patrick O’Malley and his wife, Sandra , Janet E. and her husband, Patrick Maloney , David T. O’Malley and his wife, Jo-Ann, and Christine Emma and her husband, Richard Doty. His Godsons Austin Jack O’Malley and Tyler J. Trahan who predeceased him. His nieces include, Molly Ollie O, Bridget , Colleen, Jessica and Lauren Jean. He was the great uncle to Gabriel Goddu.

Visiting hours for John III will be Monday, April 9th at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., from 4-8 P.M., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10th at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 10 A.M. Everyone is invited to meet directly at Church. In accordance with Johns' wishes he will be cremated. Burial of his cremains will be private.

In lieu of flowers a donation to the Tyler J. Trahan Memorial Scholarship Fund can be made.
