John J. "Papa John" Borges Jr.

Acushnet – John J. "Papa John" Borges Jr., 65, of Acushnet, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Sheila D. (Grant) Borges. Mr. Borges was the father of Donna Robichaud of California, Darlene Rymszewicz of New Bedford, John J. Borges III of Fairhaven, Snake S.W. Borges, Jimmie Borges, Kevin Borges, Lorri Borges and Darren Borges all of New Bedford, Amy Borges-Nunes of Fairhaven, Pam Donnelly of New Hampshire and Kenneth Galley of Boston. He was also the brother of Linda Ostrander of Middleboro and Joseph Costa of Oklahoma. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 14 GreatGrandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Borges was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was the son of the late John J. Borges Sr. and Irene (Alexander) Borges. He worked as a Fireman, 2nd class for the Acushnet Co. Mr. Borges was the President of the Independant Bikers Federation for 18 years, played guitar and sang for many years, he belonged to the Lakeville Eagles and played karaoke for 3 years until the time of his sickness. Mr. Borges was an ordained minister and he helped a lot of charitable causes such as Toys for Tots, and Make A Wish Foundation.

His funeral will take place Friday, April 9, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. Services will begin at 9:30 A.M. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 7, 2004 from 7 -9 P.M. at the funeral home.
