Frank Furtado Monteiro

New Bedford – Frank Furtado Monteiro, age 96 years, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. Frank was the husband of the late Mary (Lima) Monteiro, formerly of Dartmouth. Mr. Monteiro was the loved father of Joyce O’Connell and her husband James of Chatham and the late Janice Marie Monteiro, loved grandfather of Christine Maclellan and James M. O’Connell, loved brother of the late Antone, Manuel, Joseph, John and Louis Monteiro. Mr. Monteiro is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Monteiro was a son of the late Francisco and Virginia (Mello) Furtado, he was born in Fall River and has lived in this area most of his life. He was employed as a mill man at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. until his retirement.Frank served in the United States Merchant Marine during WWII. Mr. Monteiro was formerly a member of the AMERICAN PORTUGUESE VETS & AMERICAN PORT WAR VETS Seniors., TEAMSTERS UNION LOCAL 59 Seniors and the P.A.C.L. Port - American Civic League of Dart.

Mr. Monteiro’s funeral will be Thursday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:45 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church Dartmouth at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
