New Bedford – Elsie Botelho, 86, died in her sleep, Monday, January 23, 2012. She was the wife of the late Raymond Botelho, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

She was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Cecilia (Costa) Salsa.

Elsie and Ray were the proud owners of Haviland Chocolates, in downtown New Bedford. She was a travel agent for Paragon Tours and an office manager with Stop & Shop for many years.

Elsie and Ray wintered in Tampa Florida for 20 years and loved to travel. They mostly enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her two daughters Patricia (Botelho) Michaud and her husband, Michael of Mattapoisett; Judy Botelho- Kalagher and her husband, Patrick of Ashburnham,MA. She was the grandmother of Michael Raymond Michaud and his wife, Cathleen of Mattapoisett, MA, Jonathan Michaud of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Michaud and his wife, Michelle of Mattapoisett, MA, Ashley Kalagher of Bourne, MA. She was pre-deceased by her beautiful granddaughter, Jordyn Taylor Kalagher, of Ashburnham, MA. She also had 3 great-grandchildren, Aidan, Michael and Gabriel Michaud of Mattapoisett.

She was the sister-in-law of Thelma (Botelho) Gouveia and Rita O. Sylvia of New Bedford; and the late Joseph T. Gouveia; a nephew, Walter Gouveia of New Bedford; and a niece, JoAnn Gouveia and her husband Kevin Esposito of NJ.

The family would like to thank the Drs, nurses, staff and volunteers of Hathaway Manor for their kind and compassionate care of our beloved mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to; The Jordyn Taylor Kalagher Scholarship Fund, 6 Seneca Drive, Ashburnham, MA 01430.

Funeral services will be Friday, at 9:45am at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St.Julie Billiard Church, Dartmouth MA at 11am. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are 5-8 pm on Thursday. Relatives and friends are invited.
