New Bedford – Frank M. Sylvia, age 87 years died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Coelho) Sylvia. Frank was the loved father of Patricia Gunderson of N. Dartmouth, Diane Sylvia-Pye of E. Freetown, Debra DaSilva of Missouri, and Donna Sterling of Tiverton and the late Wayne Sylvia.Brother of the late Arthur Sylvia, Edwin Sylvia, Eleanor Bonas, Philomena Perry and Dolores Sylvia. Mr. Sylvia is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sylvia was the son of the late Nazareth (Marques) and Frank Sylvia. He was a life long resident of New Bedford and was employed at Goodyear as a supervisor until his retirement. He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of World War II

Mr. Sylvia’s funeral will be at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Thursday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-8P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
