New Bedford.–John M. Vardo, 85, of Dartmouth died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Sacred Heart Home. John was the husband of Beverly (Souza) Vardo for 62 years, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Luiz ) Vardo. He was born in New Bedford where he resided for several years before settling in Dartmouth. He was employed at Kay Windsor and River Bay Coat, as a dress cutter until his retirement. He enjoyed boating and fishing in his younger years; playing bingo and the many bus trip to Foxwoods. In addition to his wife he is survived by a brother Charles Vardo and his wife Pricilla, and a close nephew and niece, James and Denice Vardo all of New Bedford, a sister-in-law Bertha Cabral of Dartmouth, several niecs and nephews, Godchildren and many good friends. He was the brother of the late Mamie Rebello, Elvira Machado, Alexandria Rapoza, Manuel, George, Edward and Ernest Vardo.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday December 10th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St. in New Bedford at 10:00 A.M. With burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at Church. Arrangements by Perry Funeral Home.
