Agnes (Souza) Sylvia

New Bedford – Agnes (Souza) Sylvia, age 90 years, died peacefully Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Alden Court Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Sylvia Jr.. Mrs. Sylvia was the mother of Helana Sylvia, wife of Joshua Ferreira of Fairhaven. Agnes is also survived by her brother Paul Souza of New Bedford and sister Rose Fernandes of Acushnet as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sylvia is also pre deceased by her siblings; Rita Cabral, Elsie Jeffries, Edward and Albert Souza.

Mrs. Sylvia was a daughter of the late Alfred and Serafine (Correia) Souza. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. She was a supervisor at Cornell Dublier, retiring after 42 years. Agnes loved to cook and always had food in case someone came by. Her sunny disposition and kind and generous ways always guaranteed her lots of friends and close family. She had a wonderful smile and even if you felt down she’d make you feel better.

Mrs. Sylvia’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, S. Dartmouth at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
